SCENTED CANDLE

It is accepted that human beings started using fire for cooking purposes about 800,000 years ago. Early humans began to use fire for illumination while carving or painting on the walls of dark caves 70,000 years ago.

Candle is one of the first inventions in history. Candlesticks that are at least 5000 years old and found in these regions show us that candles were invented in Egypt and Crete. The first candles were used as torches for lighting purposes. Believed to be the power provided by a mythological god in ancient times, candles were widely used in religious ceremonies and celebrations.

Candles used in Europe in the Middle Ages were made from tallow. According to a tax list from 1292, 71 candlemakers lived in Paris. During the Middle Ages, the use of candles in religious ceremonies became more common.

In the 1800s, French chemist Michel-Eugene Chevreul produced stearic acid, which was used in the production of higher quality candles, by separating the fatty acid from glycerin in oil. Later, new processes were learned in making candle materials.

Apart from stearic acid, two other important materials have been found. These are spermaceti, obtained from the sperm whale's cranial cavity, and paraffin, a byproduct of petroleum. Paraffin candles were invented by Scottish chemist James Young in 1850. After these inventions, the mixture prepared with paraffin and stearic acid became the basic material of candle.

With the start of the sale of light bulbs in 1879, the use of candles for lighting purposes began to decline.

Today, candles are produced in countless colors, shapes, designs and scents. Candles are no longer just lighting tools; An indispensable accessory for home and workplace decorations; It has become an indispensable material for celebrations, prayers and meditations. Candle is used in many rituals as a symbol of spiritual enlightenment and success. Candle, which is also preferred as a gift; It means calmness, romance and good wishes for all of us!
