A Mesopotamian Story

The resurrection of the rose flower! Rose is one of the oldest flowers in the fertile lands of Anatolia. The rose smells nice, heals many ailments, does not get angry easily, and is the flower of patience and love.

The rose took its place in the history of Mardin, became the subject of its epics, inspired its stories and entered its songs. However, over time, Mardin was neglected, forgotten and resentful. Artist Berdan Mardini, the child of a family from Mardin, brought the rose back to these fertile lands after centuries.

Berdan Mardini planted roses and lavender on 700 decares of land in his own village, Mardin Yaylabaşı Village, and established a factory on an area of 10,000 m2 in the same place. Rose oil, lavender oil, rose water and lavender water are obtained as raw materials from the rose and lavender flowers processed in the Mardini Cosmetics factory, which is located very close to the rose and lavender gardens in Yaylabaşı. The pure and natural raw materials produced here are used in Berdan Mardini brand perfume, cosmetic and candle products.

We bring the unique beauty and characteristics of Mardin lands and climate to the world perfumery and cosmetics industry. Berdan Mardini, who provides employment in the factory with his rose and lavender gardens, is now in the domestic and international markets with the various cosmetic products and candles he produces under his own brand.

Gulfirosh Legend

The Legend of Gulfiroş, the Rose Seller, is a love legend that takes place in the province of Mardin. He has a daughter named Miran, who has legendary beauty. The name of this girl, who is as beautiful as a fairy, is Rihan. Rihan runs and plays in his father's rose gardens from morning to evening, and whenever he gets the chance from his education, he spends time in the rose garden.

As time goes by, Rihan reaches the age of marriage. Many gentlemen from the surrounding area are interested in the strong warrior Rihan. However, the young girl's heart does not agree with any of them. One day, a young man named Han comes to the mansion. Han, a young dervish, is fascinated by Bey's rose garden. He stands over the roses and starts reading poems to them. He reads poems to red roses, black roses, blue roses, yellow roses.

Watching all this from a distance, Rihan falls in love with Han. Han is unaware of this. Brain men notice Han. They take it out of the vineyard. At that moment, Han sees Rihan and falls in love as soon as he sees her.

Han, who traveled all over Anatolia, could not leave Mardin after that day. Every morning, with the call to prayer, he goes to the rose garden, talks to the nightingales, and speaks to the roses. He read such beautiful poems that Han's fame spread throughout Mardin in a short time.

After a while, many young men and Han come to his vineyard with the morning adhan and listen to the poems that Han recites to the roses and smell the roses. Rihan also comes and listens to Han when he gets the opportunity from his father.

After a while, all these things reach the brain's ears. The Bey goes crazy, and his daughter's involvement with the people, going to the vineyard with them and listening to the nonsense words of a dervish, makes him very angry. He sends his men and has Han arrested. Han stays in the dungeon for days. He keeps telling his love to the nightingale that sits at the window of the dungeon every morning with the call to prayer. He throws the most fragrant roses, which he plucked from the vineyard with Rihan, from the window of the dungeon where Han is staying.

After Han's arrest, all the people became offended by him, and after a while, the legendary roses began to fade. Now the place has become devastated, the nightingale does not visit, there is no smell, there is no sound. Rihan fades along with the roses, gets sick, and falls into bed. The gentleman realizes his mistake. He wants to negotiate with Han. I went to her and listened to my sick heart, but I love my daughter very much. He says please heal her and give her back the roses. Han realizes that he cannot be reunited with his beloved, and on the morning of his beloved's death, he escapes from the dungeon by tearing the iron bars. He picks the last rose in the vineyard and disappears.

They say that there is still a dervish walking around the streets of Mardin with his cloak on his back, selling roses. While selling the rose, he reads the poem Gulfirosh - Rose Seller.
